Define Different Types of Graphics Files

When you save a Web page that contains an image, FrontPage automatically converts the image to the GIF or JPEG format. The GIF and JPEG formats are the most popular image formats on the Web. Study the following information about both formats.

Graphics Interchange Format (GIF)

GIF images are limited to 256 colors and are often used for logos, banners, and computer-generated art. GIF images have the .gif extension (example: frontpagelogo.gif).

Joint Photographic Experts Group (JPEG)

JPEG images can have millions of colors and are often used for photographs and very large images. JPEG images have the .jpg extension (example: iceberg.jpg).
