Jane Young was born in Athens OH, and received the B.M. degree from Ohio University. She was a student of Beryl Rubinstein, with whom she earned a Master of Music degree in piano from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where she taught from 1956-1959. She has worked as a school music specialist and music therapist, and currently teaches privately. She was the first Chair of the Composers Guild (1957-60) after it mutated from the Manuscript Section of the Fortnightly Musical Club.
