Abstract

Ultrathin films of aq. MgCl2 solns. (» 0.6 nm thick) confined between mica plates exhibit a well-defined longest Brownian relaxation time of » 10 ms. This is strikingly more sluggish than for bulk H2O, but more fluid (by orders of magnitude) than for nonpolar fluid films of comparable thickness.
