College of Polymer Science & Polymer Engineering

Areas of research actively pursued in the department include polymer synthesis, physical chemistry, polymer characterization, molecular modeling, and engineering and technology of polymers. The Department of Polymer Science is located in the Goodyear Polymer Center which is dedicated to teaching polymer science and research. Completed in 1991, the 146,000 square-foot glass-walled structure has 50 research laboratories, three teaching laboratories, two formal classrooms, and the 213-seat Goodyear Tire & Rubber Co. Auditorium. State-of-the-art research instrumentation is available for NMR, spectroscopy, GPC, thermal analysis, rheo-optics, x-ray diffraction, electron and other microscopies, and computational modeling. An impressive array of research facilities are available through the department and the Maurice Morton Institute of Polymer Science. These include laboratories for all major types of polymerizations and investigation of physical/chemical structure and physical properties.
