REU - Research Experience for Undergraduates in  Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering

Summer 2008 - Internship Program

PROGRAM DATES:  MAY 18 - AUGUST 7, 2009

OVERVIEW:

The College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering offers a competitive summer research experience for undergraduate (REU) students.  Students will participate in a 12-week summer internship to investigate a fundamental question within the broad field of polymer science, involving either theory, simulations, and modeling of polymer properties, polymer synthesis and kinetics, polymer engineering or physical properties of polymers.  Each week, all interns participate in a career development activity and a seminar series, and meet on Fridays to discuss their research progress and/or visit a local/regional company.  The summer will culminate with an oral or poster presentation of each intern's research results at the Northeast Ohio NSF-REU Undergraduate Research Conference.

Stipends for Summer 2009 (12 weeks) are $7,000.  The internships are sponsored by the National Science Foundation and/or The Goodyear Tire & Rubber Company.

The College of Polymer Science and Polymer Engineering is located in the Goodyear Polymer Center and the Polymer Engineering Academic Center.  The college has 86 research laboratories with state-of-the art research instrumentation in NMR spectroscopy, GPC, thermal analysis, rheooptics, x-ray diffraction, electron and other microscopies, and processing. The college has thirty-two full-time faculty members and approximately 190 full-time graduate students.
