The
Delta Omega Leadership Scholarship
The Purpose of this
Scholarship:
Applicant
Criteria:
-
Must
be currently enrolled in the College of Nursing and in good academic
standing at the University of Akron.
-
An
undergraduate student applicant must rank in the upper 35% of the graduating
class, have at least a 3.0 grade point average (based on a 4.0 scale), and
be in the junior or senior year of study.

A
masters or doctoral student applicant must have at least a 3.5 grade point
average (based on a 4.0 scale).

The
scholarship will be awarded to the student who demonstrates the potential
and desire to perform in leadership positions and activities in the field of
nursing.
Application
Materials:
(to
be submitted to the President of the Delta Omega Board of Directors at least two
months prior to the date of the event)

A
completed application
form.
-
A
personal statement outlining reasons for pursuing additional education in
leadership in nursing.
The
statement should also include:
1) information about future career
goals and plans
2) school, community, and
professional activities, including offices and positions of
leadership
3) a list of honors, awards, or other
special recognition stating the nature of the
award(s) and the date(s) received

Two
letters of reference, one personal (non-relative) and one academic.

Academic
standing in current or most recently completed educational program (enclose
official transcripts or cumulative grade reports).

Any
additional materials the applicant wishes to submit to support nomination.
The
dollar amount requested (up to $500) and a proposed distribution of the
expenses such as registration fees, course materials, transportation,
parking fees, and room and board. It
is not necessary to demonstrate financial need.
An expense
report and verification of attendance must be submitted after the event.
The amount awarded will be reimbursed after these materials have been
submitted and reviewed.

A
description of how the knowledge gained from the experience will be
disseminated to the professional community.
Suggestions include, but are not limited to, an article in the Delta
Omega Chapter newsletter, a presentation to the Chapter Board of Directors,
a presentation for the attendees at one of the Chapter meetings, a poster at
the annual Chapter-sponsored Research Day, or some other creative means
described by the applicant.

A
scholarship award may be received only once per year.
