Ernie Miller Biography

Earnest R. Miller earned his Bachelor of Music at the Cleveland Institute of Music, and his Master of Music at Michigan State University. He is a student of H. Owen Reed, Marcel Dick and Ward Lewis. Mr. Miller is a member of the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP), the American Federation of Musicians (AFofM), Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia, and Kappa Kappa Psi. Mr. Miller has composed for a variety of ensembles and is represented in numerous catalogs; Theodore Presser (Bryn Maur, PA) Southern Music (San Antonio, TX), Williams Music (Roswell, GA), Ludwig Music (Cleveland, OH) to name a few. He was founder and director of the first Cleveland Trombone Quartette and the Excelsior Brass. Mr. Miller taught at Case Western and Michigan State Universities and is widely recognized as a clinician, adjudicator, and teacher. As a freelance trombone and euphonium artist, he has performed in and with symphony, ballet and theater orchestras, and with varied ensembles in the swing and jazz field.
