The Akron Ice Hockey Club was started in the
Fall of 2005 by students Joseph Frato . The main goal of this
student organization was to give students at
The University of Akron a chance to continue
their hockey careers either competitively or
recreationally. Students would compete
competitively through our club team which
would play other college club teams, while
the recreation team would play in an adult
league to strengthen their skills.
Currently,
The Akron Ice Hockey Club is participating
in an THE COLLEGE HOCKEY EAST DIVISION AS A
PROVISIONAL TEAM at Center Ice Sports
Complex in Canton, OH. This league gives students a chance to
learn how to work on the ice together and
also a chance to showcase their skills and
leadership abilities. Center Ice Sports
Complex will be the home arena for the Akron
Zips Team, hosting our weekly practices and
games on the weekend.
With
this being the TEAM'S SECOND SEASON of The Akron
Ice Hockey Club Team, we will be members of
the ACHA (American Collegiate Hockey
Association) Division 3 and will play other
college club teams such as DELTA COLLEGE,
SAINT VINCENT COLLEGE, AND LAWRENCE TECH AND
MANY OTHERS. Being members of the
ACHA will promote growth, quality, and unity
for The Akron Ice Hockey Club, and will give
us a standard to follow in the upcoming
years.
