CONSTITUTION
of the
Akron Ice Hockey Club
of
The University of Akron
Article I
- Name
The official name of the
organization shall be The Akron Ice Hockey Club of The University of
Akron.
Article II
- Purpose
The purpose of this
organization shall be to compete in intercollegiate ice hockey
games, to develop in prospective members an understanding of
organization, to provide for the members a voice in matters
affecting them, and to advance the interest and welfare of
prospective members.
Article III
- Membership
1.
Those eligible for membership are those who meet the requirements
for participating as established by The University of Akron.
2.
Membership will consist of the following types:
A.
The voting membership of this organization shall be open to all
University of Akron students.
B.
Non-voting membership of this organization shall be those members
who are not students of The University of Akron, such as faculty or
staff.
3. Membership may be revoked by the
organization under the following conditions:
A. Failure to pay dues.
B. Failure to remain
in good standing with The University of Akron.
C.
If the member's conduct is deemed unsuitable or not appropriate by
the officers.
Article IV - Officers
1.
Officer positions of this organization shall be:
A. President
B. Vice President
C. Secretary
D. Treasurer
E. Safety Officer
2.
The powers and duties of the officers shall be:
A.
President:
1.
Shall preside at all meetings.
2.
Presiding officer of the organization.
3.
Chairman of the Executive Committee.
B.
Vice President:
1.
Shall preside at the Club meetings in the absence of the president.
2.
Assist in the organization of the Club meetings and events.
C.
Secretary:
1.
Shall record all Club meeting minutes.
2.
Shall help in any mailings that need to be sent out.
D.
Treasurer:
1.
Collects and deposits all dues and other Club monies.
2.
Maintains complete and accurate financial records.
E.
Safety Officer:
1.
In charge of having an up-to-date first aid and CPR certifications
2.
Shall be called on at all events when assistance is needed.
3.
Election of Officers
A.
To qualify to be an officer, a student must be a member of this
organization.
B.
Nominations of the officers will be by open nominations for the
members of The Akron Ice Hockey Club.
C.
Election of officers will be by secret ballot. The nominee
receiving the majority affirmative vote from the voting members will
be declared the winner and take office on January 1.
D.
Terms of officers shall last one calendar year.
E.
Should vacancies occur before the completion of a term of office,
the vacancy will be filled by another secret ballot.
F.
Impeachment charges can be brought against any officer for the
following reasons:
1.
Failure to uphold the purpose of this Club in anyway seen unfit by
the Executive Committee.
G.
Impeachment proceedings may be enacted upon a majority vote of the
active members of this organization.
H.
If impeachment proceedings are voted to occur, a trial will follow
to determine the validity of the charges. At the conclusion of
the trial, a secret ballot will be taken. A 3/4 majority vote of all
voting members present will result in the removal from office.
Article V
- Organizational Structure
1.
The Executive Committee shall consist of the President, Vice
President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Safety Officer.
2.
The Executive Committee's duties shall be:
A. To carry out the duties
of the Club, including:
1.
Notification of Club meetings and events.
2.
Planning of trips and events.
Article VI - Faculty Advisor
1.
In order to qualify to be a Faculty Advisor, the individual must be
a faculty member, staff, or contract professional at The University
of Akron.
2.
The advisor will be selected by a majority vote of the Executive
Committee.
3.
The term of office for the Faculty Advisor will be for one (1)
calendar year, beginning January 1. The advisor may be re-elected
each year.
Article VII - Rules or Organizational Procedures
1.
There would be an expected fifty percent attendance policy at all
meetings.
2.
Organizational meetings will be held at least once a month.
3.
In order to conduct business, a quorum of fifty percent plus one of
the voting members must be present.
4.
In the event of conflict concerning proper rules of procedure,
Robert's Rules of Order will serve as the recognized authority.
Article VIII - Finance
1.
Dues for membership in the organization shall be:
A.
For students - determined by the Executive Committee at the
beginning of the year.
B.
For non students - Student dues, plus twenty percent.
2.
Other sources of organizational funding, besides University funding,
will be personal donations, fund raisers, corporate
sponsorship.
3.
The Akron Ice Hockey Club will manage its own finances, but in
accordance with the rules and regulations prescribed by The
University of Akron.
Article IX – Affiliation
1.
The organization is an affiliate of the American Collegiate Hockey
Association and USA Hockey.
2.
This organization has the following financial relationship to the
affiliate:
A.
The Akron Ice Hockey Club is responsible to pay all dues set forth
by these organizations.
3.
The Akron Ice Hockey Club will adhere to all rules, requirements,
and policies set forth by the A.C.H.A. Division II Policies and
Procedures Manual, as well as the NCAA Men's and Women's Ice Hockey
Rules and Interpretations Manual.
Article X
- Amendments
1.
All amendments to this constitution must be made by the following
process:
A.
Any proposed amendment must be presented in writing to the
membership.
B.
Discussion should occur at a full meeting.
C. A
vote for acceptance should occur at a following meeting - allowing
people time to think about the changes.
D.
The amendment shall become part of this constitution upon a 2/3 vote
of all members.
Article XI
- Nondiscrimination Clause
1.
The Akron Ice Hockey Club shall not discriminate on the basis of
race, creed, national origin, ancestry, gender, age, handicap,
veteran status or sexual orientation in the selection of its members
or in its programs unless federal or state laws allow such
exceptions.
Article XII - Student Life Clause
1.
The Akron Ice Hockey Club shall maintain a current registration form
including a list of officers, their addresses, the name of the
Faculty Advisor, and the most recently amended constitution with the
Office of Student Development.
