Assignment: Materials Bibliography

Instructional Resource: Internet browsing, search techniques, evaluating web content

1. Search the Internet using the search techniques discussed in class.

2. Find web sites that contain high quality content or classroom educational resources that is relevant to your teaching concentration and major.

Lesson plan sites (i.e. www.lessonplanz.com) are not acceptable.

3. Select 10 high quality web sites and evaluate each site using the evaluation criteria discussed in class and summarized below.

4. List the following information for each web site:

Ø Name of the web site

Ø The complete URL (web address) for the web site. Make sure that the web address appears and acts as a hyperlink so when you click on it, it will take you to the web site. (Remember to log on to the Internet before using the link if you are at the university.)

Ø Description of the site. Include the following items in your description:

· Educational level of content

· Educational resources on the site

Use the list of possible resources below and describe what is available.

· Books and articles

· Course content

· Sources of funding such as grants

· Lectures and tutorials

· Suggested teaching methodologies

· Software

· Educational technology

· Other (list)

· Country of origin

5. Evaluation of site:

Review the site, giving a written description for each of the following criteria.

• What type of domain does it come from (educational, non-profit, commercial, etc.)?
• Who published the page or site? Who owns the site?
• Is this a personal page of an individual?
• Who wrote the page and is the author a qualified expert?
• When was the web site updated?
• Is the information authentic, thoroughly researched, and factual?
• Does the page have any bias? If so, describe the bias.

Place the Materials Bibliography in the WebCT dropbox by the due date.
