Representative to OCLIS

Submitted by Alison  Ricker

Annual Report

6/22/2009

The Ohio Council of Library and Information Services (OCLIS) Board meetings were held in Columbus on August 5, 2008, Nov 5, 2008, and Feb 4, 2009. The next meeting is scheduled for July 23, 2009. I currently serve as OCLIS Secretary. As reported last year, OCLIS wants to become more relevant to the member associations by providing training opportunities that are directly applicable to association management, and that facilitate member services. Survey results from 2008 indicated that member organizations were interested in different types of Web services, such as electronic bulletin boards and messaging options as well as a state-wide calendar of continuing education offerings. Nine of the 23 OCLIS member organizations participated in the survey.

OCLIS Board meetings will provide some learning/training opportunities, in addition to the traditional sharing of information. OCLIS is also arranging for more online training, such as the WebJunction demo provided on January 14, 2009. Many library-related workshops are advertised through the OCLIS listserv. The July 23, 2009 meeting will be devoted to “Governance for the Future--Nonprofit Trends and Best Practices” With Dan Cain, Founder of CAIN Consulting Group, Inc. I will be attending as the ALAO representative.

Others are welcome, of course. Register at http://www.swonlibraries.org/viewevent?id=1680
