Support Staff Interest Group
The Support Staff Interest Group has been very busy. We are reinventing the interest group. We had a meeting in July to decide if the interest group should continue. With an overwhelming response it was decided that we will continue, but go in a different direction than we have been going. We are moving towards offering more than just workshops. We will offer workshops but possibly not every year. It is still undecided if we will offer one this year with the current economic state most schools are in.
Other items the Interest Group has decided to venture towards are; a mentoring program as well as creating a new web site with blogging. With the mentoring program we are hoping to connect more seasoned support staff with new incoming support staff. This will help encourage support in the Interest Group as well as benefit the new support staff person with providing them someone that can email or call for questions.
The Web site will offer information to Support Staff. It will be a site for the Support Staff to gain information on upcoming meetings, have links to information that we find would be of interest to the Support Staff. The site will also have a link to a blog site where questions can be asked and answered by all Support Staff. All of these changes will be implemented if the Executive Board, (meeting to be held on September 11th) accepts the changes. We are always on the lookout for inspiring individuals to enhance the Support Staff Interest Group. If you or anyone you know would like to join please contact Kathy at kburns@sscc.edu to join SSIG.
Respectfully,
Kathy Burns SSIG Chair
