Finding Background Information

Use these resources to find general and background information on your research topic. Help with writing a research paper.

Access Science - AccessScience is an online encyclopedia of science and technology. AccessScience contains encyclopedia articles, dictionary terms, biographies, research updates, and science news.
Encyclopaedia Britannica School Edition - Access to the Encyclopædia Britannica, Britannica Student Encyclopedia, and Britannica Elementary Encyclopedia.
Kirk-Othmer Encyclopedia of Chemical Technology, 4th Ed. - Describes the theory and practice of chemical engineering, the industrial production and uses of chemical materials, and basic subjects of chemistry.
Ullmann's encyclopedia of industrial chemistry, 6th edition - Online version of the 28-volume printed encyclopedia.

Finding Books

In each catalog use a 'word' search to find relevant books. Click on or search by the 'subject' field of the relevant item to find similar items. I need help using The UA Libraries catalog. I need help with call numbers. I need help finding other materials.

Finding Newspapers

Akron Beacon Journal - Last 7 days of news. Otherwise, use NewsBank Newspapers.
LexisNexis Academic - Full text news, business, legal, medical, and reference information. Includes or has links to full text.
NewsBank Newspapers - Online full-text newspapers, including 17 Ohio newspapers. Includes or has links to full text.

Finding Articles

There are no articles in The UA Libraries Catalog or OhioLINK. You must search the following databases to find articles on your topic. Use a 'keyword' search to locate a relevant article, then use the 'subject' field to locate similar items. When you find an article in any database you must check The UA Libraries Catalog for the journal title. If Akron does not have the article you need, you must request the article with ILLiad. I need more help finding articles.

Academic Search Complete - Academic Search Complete, designed specifically for academic institutions, is the world's most valuable and comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,300 full-text periodicals, including 4,400 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 9,300 journals and a total of 10,900 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1865, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format.
Science Citation Index Expanded (ISI Web of Science) - Index, abstracts, and cited references for articles in the sciences. Includes or has links to full text.
