  • Periodicals (called "periodicals" since they are published over a period of time. Examples: newspapers, magazines, professional journals). Periodicals may be in bound form on the shelves (they look like books), unbound in the "Current Periodicals Room" (across from the circulation desk), or in electronic form (link to it online).

  A library catalog does NOT LIST ARTICLES found in periodicals (journals or magazines). You must find the title of the periodical, and check to see if we have a subscription to the journal at the time the article was published.

  • University of Akron's (UA) Libraries Catalog (ZipLINK). This is the first catalog to search when looking for materials.
  • OhioLINK Central Catalog: a statewide library and information network which allows sharing of library resources among dozens of Ohio colleges and universities. This is the second catalog to search when the University of Akron's (UA) Libraries Catalog does not have what you need. You can request available materials online through OhioLINK and pick them up in about 3 to 5 working days.
  
  
  
  • Search UA Libraries Catalog by Title, Author, Author/Title, Subject, Keyword (Word), and others such as call number.
    
    
    • Subject Searching: finds materials about a particular topic. They are usually based on subject headings that are standard terms assigned by indexers, librarians, or authors.
    
    
    
    • Keyword Searching: allows you to search anywhere in the catalog's list of records for the words you enter. It will search titles, authors, subject headings, and more.
    
    
  
  
  
  • Interlibrary Loan (named ILLiad): Use when neither ZipLINK or OhioLINK have the materials you need. Use online order form. You will always use interlibrary loan to get journal articles not available at the University of Akron. Length of time to obtain materials varies depending on availablity of material and the institution providing it.

• CINAHL Plus with Full Text - CINAHL Plus with Full Text provides indexing for 3,024 journals from the fields of nursing and allied health, with indexing back to 1937. CINAHL Plus with Full Text also contains searchable cited references for more than 1,160 journals and provides full text for hundreds of journals, plus legal cases, clinical innovations, critical paths, drug records, research instruments and clinical trials. PDF backfiles to 1937 are also included.
• Health Source: Nursing/Academic Edition - Index, abstracts, and full text focusing on many medical disciplines. Includes or has links to full text.
• Images.MD - images.MD compiles more than 55,000 images from more than 90 collections ranging from allergy to urology, each accompanied by detailed and informative text contributed by more than 2,000 medical experts. Images are derived from Current Medicine’s renowned series of illustrated atlases.
• MEDLINE 1950 - present - Index and abstracts of journal articles in the health sciences. Includes or has links to full text.

• MEDLINE with Full Text - MEDLINE with Full Text includes all of the content available in MEDLINE as well as cover-to-cover full text for 1,014 journals indexed as cover-to-cover in MEDLINE, including hundreds of journals not available as full text in any other EBSCO database.
• ProQuest Nursing and Allied Health Source - Full text journals, evidence based resources, and dissertations to support the study of the many aspects of nursing or the allied health professions, including physical therapy, radiography, dietetics, dental hygiene, and the clinical laboratory sciences.
