Finding Articles

There are no articles in The UA Libraries Catalog or OhioLINK. You must search the following databases to find articles on your topic. Use a 'keyword' search to locate a relevant article, then use the 'subject' field to locate similar items. When you find an article in any database you must check The UA Libraries Catalog for the journal title. If Akron does not have the article you need, you must request the article with ILLiad. I need more help finding articles.

Academic Search Complete - Academic Search Complete, designed specifically for academic institutions, is the world's most valuable and comprehensive scholarly, multi-disciplinary full-text database, with more than 5,300 full-text periodicals, including 4,400 peer-reviewed journals. In addition to full text, this database offers indexing and abstracts for more than 9,300 journals and a total of 10,900 publications including monographs, reports, conference proceedings, etc. The database features PDF content going back as far as 1865, with the majority of full text titles in native (searchable) PDF format.
Access Science - AccessScience is an online encyclopedia of science and technology. AccessScience contains encyclopedia articles, dictionary terms, biographies, research updates, and science news.

ANTE: Abstracts in New Technologies and Engineering - ANTE: Abstracts in New Technologies and Engineering (formerly Current Technology Database), is an abstracting and indexing service monitoring approximately 350 academic and trade publications from the U.K. and the U.S. Coverage includes new technologies such as information technology and computing, electronics, biotechnology, medical technology, as well as engineering (including construction, electrical and chemical engineering) and allied subject areas. Abstracts are available from January 1993 to the present. An online thesaurus is available.

CSA Materials Research Database with METADEX - The CSA Materials Research Database with METADEX brings together in one place the majority of the leading materials science databases, with specialist content on materials science, metallurgy, ceramics, polymers, and composites used in engineering application. Everything from raw materials and refining through processing, welding and fabrication to end us, corrosion, performance and recycling is covered in depth for all metals, alloys, polymers, ceramics, and composites. Over 3,000 primary journals plus trade literature, patents, newspapers, press releases, conference proceedings, books and reports. Engineered Materials Abstracts - The growing importance of polymers, ceramics, and composites in a variety of structural and other advanced applications requires the in-depth coverage provided by Engineered Materials Abstracts (EMA). Citations regarding the research, manufacturing practices, properties and applications of these materials have been taken from 1,300 journals, plus dissertations, government reports, conference proceedings, and books indexed by expert editors from Materials Information. Begun in 1986, Engineered Materials Abstracts is an electronic database containing Ceramics, Composites and Polymers subfiles. EMA is specifically designed to serve materials sciences researchers, engineers and scientists. The database is indexed using a master authority file of about 28,000 controlled-vocabulary terms.
IEEExplore Online Service - IEEE Xplore indexes all IEEE publications for the years 1988 to the present and selected earlier content. University of Akron students and faculty may access the full-text from 1998 to the present of journals, transactions, magazines, and some conference proceedings. The “Access Information” link at IEEE Xplore shows which full-text titles and years we may access. Check the UA Libraries Catalog and OhioLINK for the availability of other materials, or request them via ILLiad.
Images.MD - images.MD compiles more than 55,000 images from more than 90 collections ranging from allergy to urology, each accompanied by detailed and informative text contributed by more than 2,000 medical experts. Images are derived from Current Medicine’s renowned series of illustrated atlases.

MEDLINE 1950 - present - Index and abstracts of journal articles in the health sciences. Includes or has links to full text.
MEDLINE 2002 - present - Index and abstracts of journal articles in the health sciences. Includes or has links to full text.
MEDLINE with Full Text - MEDLINE with Full Text includes all of the content available in MEDLINE as well as cover-to-cover full text for 1,014 journals indexed as cover-to-cover in MEDLINE, including hundreds of journals not available as full text in any other EBSCO database.

SciFinder Scholar - SciFinder Scholar is the premier index with abstracts for the field of chemistry and related areas. Available for use in the Science & Technology Library, 104 Auburn Science and Engineering Center. UA faculty, students and staff may download SciFinder software for use on personal computers. Search Engines - Science

DOE Data Explorer - Use the DOE Data Explorer (DDE) to find scientific research data - such as computer simulations, numeric data files, figures and plots, interactive maps, multimedia, and scientific images - generated in the course of DOE-sponsored research in various science disciplines. The DOE Data Explorer includes a database of citations prepared by the Office of Scientific and Technical Information (OSTI) based on the information found at data-hosting Web sites. It is intended to be particularly useful to students, the public, and to researchers who are new to a field or looking for experimental or observational data outside their normal field of expertise.
