Jeff investigated how male and female sharks (dogfish) differ in their fat
metabolism. He is currently working for a biotech company in Northeast Ohio.
David Jury-
David used proteomics to study how protein expression changes with a
high-calorie diet in zebrafish. He is currently finishing up medical school at
NEOUCOM.
Sarah Edmonds-
Sarah was a GK-12
fellow. Shestudied parasites in bluegill sunfish, and how
protein expression changed with parasitism. She is currently working for a
biotech company in Northeast Ohio.
Bradley Bowman-
Does extracellular fatty acid-binding protein induce
cardiac hypertrophy? Brad looked at the effects of perfusing FABP in isolated hearts of
rats. He graduated from NEOUCOM in 2002 and is currently working as a Dr. in
Maine.
Tyson Cramer-
Is Serca 1B expressed in eye muscles of major classes
of vertebrates? Tyson investigated whether calcium atpase plays a role in heat
generation of eye muscles. His work resulted in a publication in Comparative
Biochemistry and Physiology. He is currently working as a
microbiologist for the City of Akron.
Randy Johnson-
Do fish have leptin? Randy's thesis research
provided the first evidence that fish express leptin, and that it responds to fasting and
cold acclimation. His work resulted in a publication in The Journal
of Experimental Zoology. He earned his MD from MCO in 2003 and is
an Emergency Room Dr. in Barberton.
Deidra Tschantz-
Is cold acclimation adaptive? Deidra is measuring
enzyme activities among several species of related sunfishes, to see if the ability to
cold acclimate is correlated with phylogeny. She demonstrated that some sunfish
show a much stronger acclimation response than do other species in the family.
Her work is under consideration for publication in Physiological and
Biochemical Zoology. She
is currently a Ph.D. candidate in Biomedical Sciences at Kent State.
Shawn DuVall-
What is the relationship between leptin and
FABP? Shawn measured FABPs in fish injected with leptin. His work
is under consideration for publication in General and Comparative
Endocrinology. Shawn is currently in an anesthesiology program at Case Western.
Irene Wolf-
Irene measured seasonal variation in leptin expression in bluegill sunfish.
She is currently in a PhD program at MCO.
