Larry Turner, prominent canal historian and member of The Canal Society of Ohio will share a slide show on how the port of Akron grew around 21 canal locks, creating the "City at the Summit."  Larry will also discuss how this transportation system grew to what it is today.  For questions call the Cascade Locks Park Association at (330) 374-5625.

New Working-Class Studies: Past Present, and Future

Youngstown State University

Co-sponsored by the Ford Foundation, this conference will reflect the diversity, creativity, and energy of New Working-Class Studies.  The Conference will feature plenary sessions reflecting on the development of the field, taking stock of where we stand today, and looking ahead to new possibilities and challenges.  Art exhibits, film screenings, poetry readings, and other events round out the schedule.  Fees are $100 for regular conference registration and $50 for students, part-timers, and non-academics.  Please visit our website for more information.

The Homes of Bratenahl

A Journey in Time - Civil War Train Raid

July 16-17, 2005
1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.

AC&J Scenic Line

The Ashtabula, Carson, and Jefferson Scenic Line invite you to be a part of living history.  Leave from historic Jefferson Depot, the site of a Civil War encampment and ride with the troops to raid the Confederate Army.  The round-trip journey will last approximately 1 1/2 hours and will cover twelve miles through Ashtabula County back farm country.  Fees are $10 for adults and $6 for children ages 3-12.  Reservations are suggested by July 13th.  For more information contact AC&J Scenic Line at (440) 576-6346 or email info@acjrscenic.net.
