College of Nursing Mobile Lab Policies and Procedures

  • Battery Life is approx. 2.5 hours.

  • Keep laptops plugged in and connected to the cart when not in use.

  • Avoid using laptops for more than 2 consecutive hours

LOCATION AVAILABILITY & CONSTRAINTS:

  • While the lab is mobile, it has limits to where and how it can be moved. The lab cannot be delivered to any location outside MGH or KNCL.

  • When not in use, the lab is locked and stored in MGH 102B.

  • Wireless reception varies depending on close proximity to glass and brick walls. Some students may experience slow connections or dropped signals.

  • Only technical support staff or designated trained student workers are authorized to move the lab to and from the classroom.

  • Due to battery life, the lab can only be reserved for 3 hours of continuous use. (Battery is reliable for 2.5 hours + 30 minutes prep time).

  • The AC adapters are fixed inside the cart and will not be removed for use at the desktop. Extra AC adapters are provided for this purpose.

RESERVATION POLICY:

 

To ensure the most fair and efficient process to making this lab available, the following guidelines are followed:

  • Only Nursing faculty, staff, and contract professionals may reserve the cart facilities.

  • Reservations must be made at least one week in advance through the web form at the bottom of this page.

  • Phone reservations will NOT be accepted (the web form also serves as your bailment agreement).

  • Prior to first time usage, you must be oriented to the mobile lab usage and cart policies by the Director of Technology or designated technical support staff, NO EXCEPTIONS!.

  • The cart will be delivered to your class before the class starts and picked up before the class ends, if scheduling permits and student assistants are available. Please try to adjust your computing activities to allow for the setup and shut down times. All laptops should be in the cart 15 minutes prior to end of class to allow for check-in to occur prior to your class dismissal.

  • Any student who leaves the class early must return the laptop .

  • The responsibility for the cart and its contents reside with the classroom supervisor (faculty or staff) when it is delivered to the class.

  • Software can only be added to the laptops during semester break periods. Please give 3 weeks notice if you need specific software on these systems.

  • The mobile lab functions as an entire unit.  It may not be separated into a smaller number of computers.

  • Reservations will be confirmed on a first come, first served basis. The college reserves the right to prioritize requests based on course requirement, scheduling, and lab & staff availability.

RETURN PROCEDURE:

  • Every attempt will be made to have a technician arrive at your class to remove the cart. Allow 15 minutes to pick and store the systems before the class ends. All laptops must be accounted for before the class is dismissed.

  • Individual arrangements will be made for courses that end after business hours. The classroom supervisor will be responsible for returning the cart to the designated secure location decided upon.

  • Classroom Supervisor must notify the Director of Technology's office if class is being dismissed early and remain responsible for all equipment until it is picked up and checked in.

FACULTY / STAFF SUPERVISOR RESPONSIBILITY:

  • Monitor the laptops during class and during any break periods.

  • Collect laptop from any student who leaves class early.

  • Collect laptops 15 minutes prior to class ending.

  • Have students place UANet ID or Drivers License in respective cart slot when the laptop is removed to insure return of the machine to the correct location.

  • NO food or drink near the laptop workspace - no exceptions!

STUDENT USE POLICY:

  • Students are responsible for aware of the following policies:

  • UA Computing Acceptable Use Guidelines, Policies, and Procedures (http://www3.uakron.edu/network/infotech/)

  • Do NOT touch the screen surface with any pointing devices.

  • Do NOT attempt to clean the surface of the screen.

  • Use the proper Windows shut down procedure at the end of the class activity.

  • Do not leave the laptop unattended. If you must leave the classroom, return the laptop to the classroom supervisor.

  • NO food or drink near the laptop workspace - no exceptions!

REPAIRS/DAMAGE/THEFT:

  • Report any suspected problems with equipment or software to the Director of Technology immediately.

  • Do not attempt to repair or disassemble any mobile lab equipment.

  • Violation of these policies and procedures will result in loss of privileges to use the mobile lab.

I understand and accept full responsibility for the equipment while it is in my possession and further agree to pay the College of Nursing for the cost of repair or replacement of equipment damaged, destroyed, lost or stolen while in my possession and/or under my supervision.
