The exam covers material from chapters 7, 8, 9, 10, 11, 17, 18, and 19. Note that only selected areas of 17, 18, and 19 will be covered. The exam is made up of the following parts:
- Part I: short essay (10 points)
- Part II: A short case (20 points)
- Part III: Short case (20 points)
- Part IV: Short case (20 points)
- Part VI: 15 multiple choice questions (30 points)
The following areas are emphasized in the short essay and cases:
- What security threats might hamper business on the Internet? What measures might be taken to make e-business more secure? You should be able to identify the types of security measures that would best mitigate each threat. Review Chapters 7, 9, and 10. Pay attention to Problems 7.10, 9.5, 9.7, and Case 9.2. Tables 10.3 and 10.4 are excellent for review purposes. You should also review presentation and class discussion on Security at UA.
- Review alternative approaches for making payments electronically. You should understand the advantages and disadvantages of each. Make sure you understand the types of environments in which each type will work best. Review Case 7.2 and the research what you did. Recall that Case 7.2, which was assigned as homework, requires that you research various methods of making electronic payments.
- Review COSO's internal control framework and ISACF's COBIT, including the handout on COBIT that I distributed in class. You should be able to answer cases such as Problem 8.1 and 8.7 after your review.
- What is risk-based auditing? How might risk-based auditing be applied in an e-business environment? Review Chapter 11 and focus on Problem 11.8.
- What is the role of the accountant in the systems development life cycle? Refer to Figure 17.1. You should be prepared to write a short essay on the accountant's role in one of the five steps in the the systems development life cycle. Pay attention to the guest lecturer's presentation on Tuesday. .
In preparation for the multiple choice questions, I suggest that you review the multiple choice questions at end of each chapter of your textbook. I also suggest that you review the multiple choice questions on the publisher's web site. To access that site:
